In today’s economic climate, we’re all trying to cut costs wherever and whenever possible, and for recent moms and moms-to-be trying to raise a child frugality might be more important now more than ever. But when it comes to designing a nursery, you certainly don’t want for it to look “budget”. So what can you do to make it look nice without spending a lot of money? We’ll provide a couple of helpful tips that should hopefully help you work through this quandary.
Buy Second-Hand
You will inevitably have to spend some money on baby furniture in order to complete the nursery, but you don’t have to settle to buying directly from the store, as oftentimes you’ll find second-hand cribs, toddler beds and dressers from parents whose children simply outgrew their nursery surroundings. In most cases these furniture pieces are just as good as new, and you’ll be saving a lot of money in the process. Before buying however, do make sure to check if the crib or dresser you are purchasing meets the United States is CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) standards for infant safety.
High-quality crib and bursary bedding can also often be bought secondhand as well.
Create Your Own Wallpaper
Wallpaper is usually considered a must for any baby nursery, but it can be expensive and difficult to apply unless you hire someone to do it for you. But you can easily achieve the “wallpaper” appearance without having to spend the money on having a professional wallpaper the entire room. Using a fresh coat of paint along with stencils and wall decals can help you achieve the look you are looking for while costing much less in time and money!
Once you take care of the furniture, bedding, and walls, you can simply just add a few finishing touches to spruce up the appearance. Some inexpensive, yet effective, flourishes, include throw rugs, lamps, and posters. The result? A stylish, yet affordable baby nursery. And with the money left over you can maybe even afford to splurge a little bit on redecorating on their bedroom as they get older!
